cornus mas newsymardi gras 250winter goldAphrodite2CoumStew bark
Just a mix of things that are in bloom or have captivating bark this week, click on the pictures for more information on these great winter blooming/interest plants. We are adding new plants daily to the website, and will try to continue to keep you updated with newsletters and pictures on our Facebook page.

Hello, and welcome to this year's mild winter for most of us. It has been quite pleasant for working in the nursery and gardens for most of the winter so far, and yep, it seems that things are running a little earlier this year than normal. That's ok with us, all of our plants are snug in the coldframes, safe from the elements, and happily waiting to be planted in their new homes.

The older we get, the faster the time seems to go, and spring shipping season is just beginning. Take a look around at some of our great new plants, and we have many items ready for shipping that have been out of stock for a while-Red Pygmy Dogwood and Fairywand Fans take notice, both of these items are available for shipping again, after a long abscence! We have added several new Maples and other interesting trees, 5 New Witchazels and will continue to offer and add many more exciting new plants to our website. Thanks for taking the time to look over our offerings.

Plant Gifts from Friends and Fellow Gardeners
We have several plants around the nursery and our home gardens that have been gifts from friends and customers. Some of them seem at times to be more special than others, much like the Daphne 'Aurea-Marginata' pictured above. I have a love/hate relationship with Daphnes-I love them this time of the year, but they can be a challenge for me to grow in both the garden and the nursery. A departed horticultural mentor of mine used to always laugh at me for this view on Daphnes. The late Ross Moore, who I learned a wide array of knowledge from on native plants, gave me this plant years ago(threw it at my is the truth, he used to pull up in his old pickup, throw some plants off the tailgate onto the ground, beep the horn, wave and pull off in a cloud of smoke!) and told me to plant it and forget it, it would grow. This cold morning, having an early cup of coffee in the yard, I was knocked down by the fragrance and admiring the spectacular bloom, and had a nice few minutes in the garden with my old friend, even though he isn't with us anymore. I am able to have many great memories of Ross, every time I smell that plant in winter, or in summer when I go by the Stewartia that he gave me, or in spring when his great Bakerii azaleas bloom. The same goes for all of the Japanese Maple seedlings that my late mother in law gave to all of her many friends-she would dig up seedlings from her great tree in the front yard, pot them up, and then bestow them upon her worthy friends-whether they were gardeners or not. Most all of these trees are thriving in special places around town, and I always think of her when I run into one of these gift trees.

Pass along plants to friends, family, strangers, acquaintances and fellow gardeners along the way. You never know how it may make an impact in a garden many years from now. Don't expect anything in return. To quote an old country saying-Never say thank you for a gifted plant, say you appreciate it or that is mighty nice of you, but the old tale used to say that saying thank you was a sure way to kill a plant. Help others to start a garden or add to their garden and enjoy life.
